Melissa Chan

I graduated from the University of Arizona with a BA in psychology and am currently a graduate student in UCLA’s developmental psychology program. Working with my mentor, Dr. Andrew Fuligni, I am interested in researching the biological effects of acculturation due to stress in adolescents of immigrant families. Simply put, what happens to the physical health of these adolescents as they adapt to another culture? My research interests have been deeply impacted by my personal experiences as a Chinese American attempting to navigate two seemingly different worlds, tottering between traditional and modern values. While at times it feels chaotic and stressful, I wouldn’t have it any other way. My research and my life just wouldn’t be the same.
